1. Beyond Tai Chi

Over the years, I have studied and examined on a wide spectrum of Qi gong, Tai Chi, and Martial arts.  My interest is to explore what is BEYOND Tai Chi.

My study makes cross references with medical research articles from published journals, books, and internet resources including Harvard Medical School.

Beyond Tai Chi refers to a system, a collective of methods that can be practiced in a harmonized manner. Harmony means balance after taking considerations of the strengths and the weaknesses of various types of martial arts.  I name the system, ZIBOCE DANCE.

ZIBOCE DANCE centers on the understanding of my familiar types of martial arts, such as Tai Chi, Qigong, Yi Quan, Zhan Zhuang, Xing Yi Quan, Bagua, and Six Harmonies & Eight Methods.

To share my experience with Tai Chi lovers, I teach by theories, principles, and inspirations. The aim is that the students can easily grasp the core values of the Kung Fu, and are able to personalize styles of their own. I use ZIBOCE BASICS to refer to the first level of the learning progress.

Ziboce Basics involves Qi Gong from main streams which refer to four big mountains in China, i.e., EMEI (Taoist, Buddhist, Medical), WAH SHAN (Taoist), SHAO LIN (Buddhist), Wu Dang (Tai Chi).

My belief is that the value of the Tai Chi & Qi Gong is on HEALTH.

2. What is Tai Chi?

Ziboce considers Tai Chi as a process.

a. One of the major elements is CONTRADICTION.

b. CONTRADICTION can be expressed in many ways. For example, directions, taste, weights, colours, brightness, speed, heights, temperatures, hardness, feelings, shapes, dimensions, time, etc.

c. CONTRADICTION brings out the concept of EXTREMES. With extremes or ends, limits, scales, levels, stages, ranges, and progress are ways to describe measurements and conditions.

d. One of the way to ADJUST/ BALANCE within the scales or limits, in the form of martial arts, is Tai Chi Chuan.

e. The aim of the practice of Tai Chi, is to achieve a state of balance. Ziboce refers this state as MIDDLE. Middle of the road is the principle of DAO. When DAO relates to the traditional Chinese philosophy of life, it is an ART.

f. The beauty of the ART, can be expressed in martial arts, fine arts, music and dancing.

g. The highest level in the pursue of this ART, aims at NATURAL. That is what Tai Chi lovers appreciate. Ziboce describes this state as NATURAL AS REQUIRED, and renames it ZIBOCE TAI CHI.

h. Ways of how Ziboce expresses ZIBOCE TAI CHI, are ZIBOCE DANCE, and ZIBOCE BRUSH.

i. ZIBOCE TAI CHI concept centers on principles, and theories.

j. Ziboce principles include

  • relative/ absolute
  • bouncing
  • responsive
  • unity
  • against/ follow

k. Ziboce exercises the principles and theories into practice by focusing on BREATHING, MOVEMENT, MINDEDNESS.

l. Ziboce believes EXPRESSION and LOGICS that can be taught and learnt, and not the supernatural, mysteries, and unexplained.

2. Q&A Allexperts.com

Question:
I've always wanted to do martial arts as a child, but because of strict parents and studies, I never got around to it. Now I am 18, on my own, and have the money to learn. BUT...considering my age and the fact that I almost have NO knowledge on any martial arts, should I even bother? I don't want start if it'll just end up with failure or humiliation...
Deelo

Answer:
Dear Deelo,
Thanks for your question.
I started martial arts when I was 16. Now I am 53, experiencing more than 10 types of MA, and still keep on seeking for new inspirations.
MA is of self-improvement, confidence, and self-respect. MA bears the functions of health, leisure, and self-defense. So make sure you know your aim, your goal, and most affordable time.
For the age of 18, I would suggest you start from those which involves building strength and power, if you are fit to do so.
Start from joining classes for beginners if you are a bit shy among seniors.
MA is never too old, and never to late to start.
When you were 28, you would be black belt, coach of some sorts. When you were 48, start something soft, such as Tai Chi. There are lot of fun, and never end up with failure or humiliation.
